Pokémon in Brazil

Considering that very few Pokémon received a Brazilian Portuguese name, I think we should consider the possibility to merge this article with Pokémon in Brazil. In addition, our page about Relicanth list a Portuguese adaptation as Relicário.--Siegfried 17:02, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Please NO!

Those are just few names, used in the anime for conveinience. The changes are so minor, that they can easily be considered as adaptation of English names. Also, I doubt that Portuguese dub and merchandise is actually using them consistently. I think that noting these on the respective Pokemon article is enough. Collecting just six names into the list is idiotic. In Polish dub "Meowth" is pronounced like "Meow" (without the -th). So what? We don't have any "List of Polish Pokemon names" article here. Minor changes like slight changes in the pronounciation of certain names can happen in the dub, to make them feel less "foreign". It's common. I know that we've got a group of Brazilian fans here who keep adding Portuguese names everywhere possible. And it is okay generally. But this is an exagerration. There are no Portuguese Pokemon games and they use English names for most things. Pokemon included. Those are minor, and probably incosistent, twists. --Maxim 17:06, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

While I agree that a similar list is largely an exageration, I think that some of the Brazilian names could be considered semiofficial. Looking at the translations of anime episodes from Bulbapedia, it seems that some names could have some visual evidence of their existence:
EP010 Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village > Bulbassauro e a Vila Escondida;
EP051 Bulbasaur's Mysterious Garden > O Jardim Misterioso de Bulbassauro;
[[EP225 Bulbasaur... the Ambassador! > Bulbassauro... o Embaixador!
AG094 The Relicanth Really Can > O Santuário do Relicário

This isn't however the case of Meoth, whose name is probably just a phonetical adaptation: EP070 Go West Young Meowth > Vá para Hollywood, Meowth
AG125 Like a Meowth to a Flame > De Meowth para uma Chama
EP096 Meowth Rules! > O Rei Meowth

I again suggest to merge this article with Pokémon in Brazil, maybe adding an proper paragraph about dub adaptations of Pokémon, localities, characters...--Siegfried 17:32, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

I think the names that are changed definitely deserve mention on the species page and in Pokémon in Brazil. Maybe a subheading under the "anime" section dedicated to Pokémon, etc with changed names? However, because so few Pokémon have different names, and there isn't a Brazilian translation of the games (is there even a Portuguese translation from Portugal? I'm not sure) I don't think this deserves a full article all to itself. You'll notice that pages such as the French and German names actually have a majority of the names localised. --ZestyCactus 23:55, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
