EV-enhancing item

What if an EV-enhancing item is knocked off? Are the extra EVs still gained? Tk3141 13:43, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

Gen VI changes

Changed base pp of knock off from 20 to 25 and max pp from 32 to 40 as these were bumped in gen 6. Data miners from both showdown and pokemon online have checked and implemented these changes. Best thing for proof I can find is this: http://pokemon-online.eu/forums/showthread.php?23617-knock-off-has-incorrect-amount-of-pp. Abayleef (talk) 07:19, 4 January 2014 (UTC)abayleef

Changes for Focus Sash

In a battle with a Shedinja that was holding a Focus Sash, Knock Off was used and Shedinja subsequently fainted as the item was knocked off. Was this something that occurred since Generation V? ht14 17:52, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

Focus Sash will still prevent the holder from fainting to a Knock Off OHKO in Gen VI, including Shedinja. There must have been something you were missing.VioletPumpkin (talk) 16:15, 2 June 2016 (UTC)
Yep, you're right. The Shedinja was holding onto a Focus Band instead. Thanks for clarifying! ht14 18:59, 2 June 2016 (UTC)

Interactions with Revive?

The page mentioned something about the move having a special interaction with Revive. Does anybody have any idea what that would be? Jdrawer (talk) 03:03, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

What the article means is, is a Pokémon is hit by Knock Off and faints, its item will still be gone if it is revived. Litwick96 03:50, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

Power or damage?

There's been some confusion on whether the additional boost is a power boost or a damage boost. I unexpectedly found another interaction when trying to figure it out, and so I'm currently unable to confirm either way. The setup is easy: have a low-level Pokémon knock off an item of a high-level Pokémon that is weak to Dark (and decrease Atk and/or increase Def stat stages as necessary); if it receives 3HP damage, then it's a (pure) damage increase, if it's 2HP, then it's "power". When someone tests the Colbur Berry as suggested by the MoveResearch template (or even if they don't have any or don't want to test it), maybe they can test this? The Colbur Berry debate

When Knock Off is used on a target weak to Dark, if the target is holding a Colbur Berry, the move gets a power boost immediatly before it lands. Here are damage calculations (assuming perfect IVs for every Pokemon), using a neutral nature, maximum Attack Mega Absol with Knock Off vs. a physically defensive (max HP/max Defense) Aegislash in Shield Forme, taken from Pokemon Showdown's damage calculator:

Calculations:

  • No item: 252 Atk Absol-Mega Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Aegislash-Shield: 128-152 (39.5 - 46.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
  • Any item: 252 Atk Absol-Mega Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Aegislash-Shield: 192-228 (59.2 - 70.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  • Colbur Berry: 252 Atk Absol-Mega Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Colbur Berry Aegislash-Shield: 96-114 (29.6 - 35.1%) -- 14.6% chance to 3HKO

As you can see, Colbur Berry's effect activates immediatly before Knock Off even hits, halving the damage Aegislash takes from Mega Absol's Knock Off, but since the item is still considered in play, Knock Off deals 1.5x damage. This makes the move damage Aegislash for roughly 0.75x damage. After the message "The Colbur Berry reduced the damage from Absol's Knock Off!" or so appears, the Berry is no longer in play. Interestingly enough, the Berry disappears before Knock Off can remove it. --That Beep guy from the SmashWiki (talk to me!) 18:02, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure that the wiki is looking for proof directly from the game to make changes, not the Showdown Calculator, since they aren't completely sure if they're in the right case.
Nevertheless, your statement is right. I did some testing myself with a friend using Knock Off against three Orangurus, one itemless, one with an item, and one with a Colbur Berry, and my results were:
  • The itemless Oranguru received 96 HP of damage with Knock Off
  • The Oranguru with an item received 158 HP of damage with Knock Off
  • The Colbur Oranguru received 72 HP of damage with Knock Off

158 / 2 = 79, this result is close to 72 due to the random damage but is still in the range, so it is safe to say that Knock Off does get a power boost even when the item is a Colbur berry. --McFlyMan (talk) 06:23, 5 July 2018 (UTC)
