WOTC Recolor?
This article, like a lot of online fansites, documents that Base Set Jynx was originally printed with a blackface, and later on recolored as black in response to the blackface controversy. This would match the series of events as now understood – that the controversy started after a journalist saw the October 1999 airing of Holiday Hi-Jynx and published an article about in early 2000, so we'd expect that WOTC switched the coloration of Jynx at that time. However, I cannot find any evidence of an English copy of Base Set Jynx ever being printed with a black face. It seems entirely possible that WOTC realized the potential objectionability of Jynx of their own volition, and changed its color of its face as well as choosing to write a unique Pokédex entry of the card – and then either didn't communicate this to NOA, or tried to communicate this and their concerns were disregarded. As it stands, I'd at least like to see a source/proof of a "black Base Set Jynx" ever being printed. --INTERNETFRIEND (talk) 17:19, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
