Delphox's "robe" may not be based on a witch or mage's robe. It may actually be based on a Shinto Miko, or Shrine Maiden's uniform, and the "wand" that it carries may be based on a Shinto gohei. Coylie3 (talk) 21:03, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
Relationship to Kitsune
I've noticed a trait Delphox and its pre-evolved forms seem to share with kitsune. As Fennekin progresses through its stages of evolution, not only does it begin to stand upright, but its figure starts to take on a few human-like proportions (for example, Delphox has a tall, slender torso and its arms are rather human-like in their length and joint locations). This seems to me as a reference to shape-shifting, as kitsune have been known to shape-shift into human forms. Also, if evolution stages could be compared to aging, then Delphox's evolution family also grows with age like kitsune. Kitsune may even have been the inspiration for Delphox's Hidden Ability to be Magician because kitsune have been depicted as tricksters and thieves. Anyone else thinks there's enough of a connection here for it to go in the articles for Fennekin, Braixen, and Delphox? Superbreeder 09:28, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
Honestly, now that I look at it, the kitsune inspiration doesn't seem as plausible, as the most iconic trait of the kitsune yokai is that it possesses multiple tails. You compared the evolution stages to aging, although this is pretty much applied to every starter there is. Physically, kitsune are noted for having as many as nine tails. Generally, a greater number of tails indicates an older and more powerful fox; Delphox lacks multiple tails, unlike Vulpix and Ninetails, an actual pokemon whose kitsune origin is more obvious. I tried looking up the kitsune-mochi for research, and was only led to one website, and it explains that these types of yokai possess humans and force them to do malicious acts. Delphox's pokedex entries don't describe it to be malevolent or unkind towards humans, just that it can look into the future just by focusing on the tip of a flame, which makes the Oracle inspiration a lot more plausible. You also have to consider the RPG theme that the Kalos starters have, with the Fennekin line said to represent the Mage class. Pika Pika Pi~!! (talk) 15:54, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

Name Origin
Are we somehow sure that Delphox's name is derived specifically from the Delphic Oracle? Becuase when it is not confirmed, I guess we may use the base word, which is Delphi. I'm sure it'll cover all the aspects of the name (and would also include the Delphic Oracle). It makes a lot more sense than Delphic Oracle since the word itself was originated from Delphi.
