[[Ash]] and his Pokémon are sitting on the beach with their eyes closed and their backs to the waves. Ash says to wait until he says go to dodge the waves. Ash then commands them to run and they all successfully dodge the wave. [[Max]] says that they are really getting good and {{an|May}} says that he will be ready for his rematch with [[Brawly]] in no time. [[Brock]] says that it is time for lunch and they all head up to eat. A girl appears on top of a wave riding on her surfboard and jumps onto the beach. She asks Ash if he is Ash and tells him she wants to battle him. She introduces herself as [[Shauna]] and says that she is Brawly's top student at the [[Dewford Gym]] and wants to battle him for the experience. Ash tells her that he will battle her when he has finished lunch but she wants to battle now. Her belly then growls and she collapses onto the beach saying she is starving. Ash tells her that she cannot challenge him then say that she is hungry. Ash's belly growls and he laughs out of embarrasment.
