I see where you're coming from, but Japan has been heavily influenced by Western Culture. They might not make multiple references to the fat lady like a American Cartoon (like in a cartoon you could have seen before cartoon network shoved all the good stuff out of the way), but I'm sure they've come across the reference. Really the things Pokémon are based off of are hit and miss. I didn't see a real similarity between Blissy's hair and Nurse joy until I read the origin. The thing people chose to forget here and there is a lot of whats on this site is guess work. Until Psycho Rider lives up to their name, and holds one of the creators at gunpoint we have to guess.
