If you take the Spiky-eared Pichu to Professor Elm, he will call the Pokémon centres to prevent it from being traded. But what if you didn't take it to Professor Elm, and attempted to trade it? Will it work? The game makes it seem that it can't be traded after you take it to Professor Elm. So I'm assuming that if Elm doesn't see the Spiky-eared Pichu, he can't stop you from trading it.
