I think the Bird type ''was'' the beta name for Flying-type because the person that greets you at the [[Vermillion City]] Gym in [[Pokémon Red and Blue]] cautions you that "Bird and {{t|Water}} types do poorly against {{t|Electric}} types". No, that wasn't a typo, he says "Bird" and not "Flying".
