While traveling through a forest Ash and friends discover several dead or heavily damaged trees, and a group of bug Pokémon they believe to be responsible. Upon identifying the unknown bug-types as {{p|Heracross}}, Ash expresses a desire to capture them. Before he can do so, however, a Forest Ranger emerges from behind the group and explains that such an action could potentially destabilize the natural balance of the forest. The Ranger goes on to explain that a population of {{p|Pinsir}} living in the other half of the forest are - for reasons unknown - invading the territory of their {{p|Heracross}} neighbors, resulting in the damage the group had noticed.
