Snorunt's name is a combination of ''snow'' and ''runt'', referring to a small animal. Its Japanese name possibly is a combination of 雪 ''yuki'', snow, and らしい座敷童子 ''rashī[[WP:zashiki warashi|zashiki warashi]]'', resembles.a spiritual Anothercreature possibilityfound isin thatthe itfolklore isof [[WP:Iwate ''yuki'',Prefecture|Iwate snow, and 童子, childPrefecture]]. The French name is based off of "stalagmite".
Snorunt is based on a person wearing a certain kind of Japanese straw cloak to protect his or herself from the snow.
