Well, Dialga and Palkia and Giratina and Arceus are considered by many as only legends, so the Pokédex programmers didn't know about its existence until the player captured it. But people have seen Mew, and proved its existence beforehand.TorchicBlaziken (talk•edits) 23:11, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Okay, looky here. This argument is getting too long. Let me just summarise and give a difinitive solution; Sure, many scientists have developed the theory that Mew is the ancestor of all Pokemon because it contains all of their DNA. However, this is proven wrong with the origin of Arceus.
Arceus was born before the universe (or very early on, at least) and shaped the universe and created the dragon and lake trio. He then went to sleep for eons at the Hall of Origin. On Earth (in the Pokémon world) the other legendaries came about by their own means and whatever, such as the legendary beasts being created by Ho-Oh.
Mew came about of its own accord. It holds the genes of all Pokemon. That does not make it the ancestor of all Pokemon. If anything, it would make sense to say that it came about last since it contains all other Pokémon's genes. In no way should Mew's story crossover with Arceus's. Mew is simply a very powerful Pokemon whose initial theorised origin is wrong.Bttsstewart 04:48, 8 December 2008 (UTC)Bttsstewart
