:It varies from case to case. Any Pokémon with a move it can't get through level-up, breeding, tutoring, TM/HM, purification, or any other way I forgot to mention is hacked. Same with abilities; a Wonder Guard Spiritomb is one of the most popular hacked Pokémon out there. And sometimes, a Pokémon is just so ridiculous, you can tell it's hacked. I'm looking at my brother's Pearl Version (shh, don't tell him I took it), and he got a lv. 100 shiny Deoxys that once had the Pokérus and was apparently "met at level 0" off the GTS. I can't tell you if it's stats are hacked, since I don't know much about what their value would be with high EVs, but I think it's pretty clear this isn't a completely legitimate Pokémon. --<font color="#008000">Martonimos</font>((<font color="#00FF00">Talk</font>)) 22:08, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

As well as what Martonimos wrote
You can look at what Poké Ball they use – i.e. the only way to get Eevee, the starters from the main series and a few others is to either breed ‘em or be given them so they can only ever be in a normal Poké Ball.
Think of the probability of what they’ve got – i.e. The chances of getting 6 shinny Pokemon 1 in 49152 – the chances of getting 6 shinny with perfect stats is insurmountable  (or rather I cant be bothered to work it all out). I dont think you can say it is impossible but to say it's extreamly unlikely is an understatment.
This only helps if you have access to the information but you can also check where they were caught (Dose that Pokémon really appear on that route??),at what level and also, if from Generation III, what region there from – A good example of the last point is Rayquaza – If it says it came from Kanto it is a hack, even if you trade it from Hoenn to Kanto and then migrate it should still say caught in Hoenn, the same can be said for the Lati@s and the reverse for Mewtwo. The only exception is the Ledgendary birds – of whom can be caught in XD and I’m not 100% sure what that says.
To answer the AR ones it I'm not to sure sorry. PhantomCX 11:01, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
