Ecruteak City debuted in ''[[PS108|Quilava Quandary]]'', where the entire city was caught up in a giant earthquake. [[Jasmine]], who was on her way to meet the [[Day-Care Couple]] at {{rt|34|Johto}}, got caught up in the devastation and ended up getting trapped in rubble. In ''[[PS109|Ampharos Amore]]'', {{adv|Gold}} and {{adv|Silver}} noticed the light sent up by Jasmine's [[Amphy]] and rescued her, also coming to realize that the {{m|earthquake}} had been caused by a trained Pokémon. The Pokémon in question was revealed to be a {{p|Piloswine}} used by a group of [[Team Rocket]] members, including the two {{tc|Executive|Rocket Executives}} [[Carl]] and [[Sham]]. With their combined efforts, Gold and Silver were able to defeat Team Rocket and force them to retreat. It was later revealed that Team Rocket had destroyed the city in an attempt to make {{DL|Tower duo (Adventures)|Ho-Oh}} appear. The city was later rebuilt under Jasmine's supervision.

In ''[[PS153|Oh, It's Ho-Oh!]]'', the Masked Man arrived in Ecruteak City, having sensed that Ho-Oh would return that very day. He confronted the [[Legendary Pokémon]] in the sky over the Tin Tower and declared that it would become his slave once more, as it had been nine years earlier. Ultimately, he succeeded in catching Ho-Oh, forcing it to become his servant again.

Gold traveled to Ecruteak City to ask Morty about [[Lance]]'s whereabouts, first stopping by at the Kimono Dance Theater in ''[[PS448|Pleased as Punch With Parasect]]'' to watch the [[Kimono Girl]]s perform, before heading to the Ecruteak Gym. In ''[[PS449|Raising the Stakes with Rhyperior]]'', Silver also arrived at the Gym, seeking Morty's help in finding the [[Plate]]s scattered around Johto.
