This card was released as a promotional card. In Japan, it came with Volume 1 of Pokémon Trainer's Magazine, released in May 1999. The English version of the card was released through Pokémon card leagues in August 2001.

*This card is commonly known as ''Snap Pikachu'', in reference that the character image is a photo from [[Pokémon Snap]].
*This is the only Pokémon card to have "Photo." instead of "Illus." where the illustrator name is traditionally placed.
