'''Iris's Excadrill''' (Japanese: '''アイリスのドリュウズ ''' ''Iris's Doryuzu'') was one of the two {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} acquired by {{an|Iris}} prior to the start of ''[[Pokémon the Series: Black & White]]'', and the [[starter Pokémon|first Pokémon]] she was known to have {{pkmn2|caught}}.

As a Drilbur, Excadrill first met Iris during her childhood after tormenting some {{p|Patrat}} and stealing their food. She challenged him and, after being defeated countless times, finally managed to get him tangled in some vines. Unfortunately, he was dangling over a cliff, forcing Iris to save him from a fall. Afterwards, the two began {{pkmn|training}} together. Drilbur won all of his matches through one-hit KOs, never taking a hit in the process. They eventually entered a tournament, where he evolved into Excadrill while battling a Trainer's {{p|Druddigon}} and won, earning Iris a streak of 99 straight wins. Iris, looking to get her 100th win against a Dragon Master, challenged [[Drayden]] to a battle, which he happily accepted. Excadrill put up the best fight that he could against Drayden's powerful {{p|Haxorus}}, but he was unable to inflict any damage on Haxorus and found himself taking hits for the first time. Realizing that he had no chance of winning, he tried to relay this to Iris, but in her determination to win against Drayden, she continued pushing him to keep battling. Haxorus soon knocked Excadrill out, and Excadrill, ashamed over the loss and concluding that Iris cared about winning battles more than she did about him, became distrustful of her as his Trainer, and [[Obedience|closed himself off from her]].

He was left at the Village of Dragons when Iris went to the Opelucid Academy. When Iris returned later she decided to take him along on her journey to become a Dragon Master.

He was later introduced to {{Ash}} and {{an|Cilan}} in ''[[BW009|The Bloom Is on Axew!]]'' when [[Iris's Axew]] got stuck in the horns of a {{pkmn2|wild}} {{p|Scolipede}}, and both [[Cilan's Pansage]] and [[Ash's Snivy]] tried and failed to stop it. Reluctantly, Iris sent out Excadrill to help. But as soon as he came out, he stayed in his inactive state and refused to do anything. After Iris rescued Axew herself, Excadrill came out of his inactive state and attacked Scolipede after Scolipede inadvertently kicked him. He easily defeated it and sent it flying off into the horizon. Excadrill cried out in victory before going back into his inactive state.

In ''[[BW118|Secrets From Out of the Fog!]]'', Excadrill was sent out to defend the Pokémon living at {{an|N}}'s house from a {{tc|Team Plasma Grunt}}'s {{p|Muk}}, knocking it back with Metal Claw and eventually defeating it with Focus Blast.

Excadrill appeared in ''[[JN065|Thrash of the Titans!]]'' during a flashback of Iris's [[BW101|battle]] against Drayden.

Excadrill appeared in [[JN116]] as Iris's first Pokémon in her [[Masters Tournament]] match against {{an|Cynthia}}. The battle began in the [[JN117|next episode]], where he battled against her {{p|Gastrodon}}. Excadrill initially struggled against Gastrodon's powerful [[rain]]-boosted {{m|Muddy Water}} and high defenses, but was able to secure the victory with {{m|Horn Drill}}. He then battled {{p|Milotic}}, but was taken out by a single {{m|Hydro Pump}}.

Like [[Ash's Charizard]] and [[Dawn's Mamoswine]] before him, Excadrill did not listen to his Trainer in his debut. However, unlike the other two, this was not in disloyalty to his Trainer. Excadrill is a very proud Pokémon who was once very caring towards his Trainer. However, after a devastating defeat, he became resentful to the point of blocking Iris out and distrustful of her advice in battle, considering her a bad Trainer who would make him lose again. He was later reassured after she apologized to him, learning {{m|Focus Blast|a new attack}} and opened up to his {{an|Iris|Trainer}} once again.
