== Regional Forms ==
As I’ve said in my edit summaries, Sword and Shield established that in order for a Pokémon to evolve further than it can (or at all if it cannot evolve normally) in a specific region, it has to have a regional form as a precursor. Note how Farfetch'd, Linoone, Meowth, Mr. Mime, Yamask, and Cursola all have regional evolutions but at the same time have regional forms.
Say you’ve somehow acquired a Kantonian Farfetch'd in Sword and Shield. Can it or will it evolve? No, as Sirfetch'd can only evolve from a Galarian Farfetch'd.
Region-specific evolutions are specific to that Pokémon’s respective regional form.
I wouldn’t consider this speculation as it's based on a preexisting, established game mechanic.
