Kingdra (Pokémon): Difference between revisions

Kingdra appears to be based on a {{wp|seahorse}} and the {{wp|common seadragon|weedy seadragon}}. Its {{t|Dragon}} type and {{pkmn|category}} may be a reference to the Japanese word for seahorse, 竜の落し子 ''tatsu-no-otoshigo'', which means "dragon's child"' and is derived from the {{wp|Japanese mythology|myth}} that a seahorse that lives for a century will transform into a {{wp|dragon}}. The fact that it dwells on the seafloor while creating {{wp|whirlpool}}s may be a reference to {{wp|Ryūjin}}, a Japanese sea deity, or {{wp|Charybdis}}, a sea monster in Greek mythology. Its ability to shoot {{wp|cephalapod ink|ink}} resembles that of a {{wp|squid}}, while the shape of its snout and its {{a|Sniper}} Ability may be inspired by a {{wp|water gun}}.
