User talk:Force Fire/Archive 11: Difference between revisions

In the list of templates, the summary explains that they're used to shorten the length of links. However, there are templates for characters like {{Ash}}, {{Tracey}} or {{Steven}}, where the only difference between putting them between {{s or putting them between [[s is the lack of a (redirected from character name) message at the top of the page. Is that why those templates exist? If so, why isn't it mentioned in the list of templates' lede? Since, you know, it seems to contradict the apparent reason why templates exist due to not making the links shorter. :<nowiki>{{Ash}}</nowiki> links ''directly'' to Ash Ketchum, whereas <nowiki>[[Ash]]</nowiki> links to a redirect that leads to Ash Ketchum. The "making links shorter" explanation, in this instance, is more referring to the convenience of linking their articles with just their first names rather than typing the names in full.
