This isn’t the anime where he, Trevor and Shauna got the Kanto starters. And the whole "most trainers get their starters from Pokémon professors" thing isn't even true for the games AFAIK. In the very first games, Oak gave Charmander, Bulbasaur or Squirtle to the player because he wanted him to complete the Pokédex for him, and those were the only Pokémon he had left -- he said so himself. Nowhere is it stated that those are standard starter Pokémon, or that Oak was known for handing out starters. That's why | :::::::How am I twisting his words?
