Charizard (Pokémon): Difference between revisions

Charizard resembles stereotypical {{wp|European dragon}}s, which are heavily associated with the element of fire in {{wp|European folklore}}; this draconic appearance would later be reflected in the {{2t|Fire|Dragon}} typing of Mega Charizard X. Reflecting how dinosaurs are known in Japan as ''scary dragons'' (「恐竜」), as well as the appearance of its pre-evolved forms, it also resembles various {{wp|Theropoda|therapod}} {{wp|dinosaur}}s, in particular ''{{wp|Baryonyx}}'' and ''{{wp|Spinosaurus}}'', and its Japanese name has the ''-don'' suffix. Its wings may be an abstract interpretation of the sail found on ''Spinosaurus''. Considering the Japanese and English nomenclature, Charizard's draconic design may be a reference to how various types of {{wp|lizard}}s are named after dragons, most notably {{wp|Komodo dragon}}s and {{wp|Draco (genus)|flying dragons}} – two categories of lizards with which Charizard shares loose physical similarities.
