===Origin===
Charizard resembles stereotypical {{wp|European dragon}}s, which are heavily associated with the element of fire in Western{{wp|European folklore}}; this draconic appearance would later be reflected in the Fire/Dragon typing of Mega Charizard X. Considering the Japanese and English nomenclature, Charizard's draconic design may be a reference to how various types of {{wp|lizard}}s are named after dragons, most notably {{wp|Komodo dragon}}s and {{wp|Draco (genus)|flying dragons}} – two categories of lizards with which Charizard shares loose physical similarities.

Mega Charizard Y has characteristics of {{wp|pterosaur}}s such as ''{{wp|Pteranodon}}''.
