This card was included in the {{TCG|Guardians Rising}} expansion with artwork by [[Mizue]], first released in the Japanese {{TCG|Islands Await You}} expansion. It was later included as a Mirror Holofoil print in the Japanese {{TCG|Facing a New Trial}} subset. It was reprinted as one of the Japanese {{TCG|SM-P Promotional cards}} with different artwork by [[Hideki Ishikawa]], and was available as part of the ''Lawson Blue Campaign'', which began on June 16, 2017 in commemoration of the release of the {{TCG|To Have Seen the Battle Rainbow}} and {{TCG|Darkness that Consumes Light}} expansions. For every five booster packs purchased in one transaction at participating {{wp|Lawson (store)|Lawson}} stores, customers would receive a special pack containing 1 of 3 possible promotional cards. The campaign ran for as long as stocks lasted. The Guardians Rising print was later included as a Mirror Holofoil print in the Japanese {{TCG|GX Battle Boost}} subset. The SM-P Promotional print was released in English as a Cosmos Holo in the {{TCGMerch|Sun & Moon|Series|Ultra Prism Single Pack Blisters}}, available starting February 2, 2018.

Two variants of the original Guardians Rising print were available in the {{TCG|Sun & Moon Trainer Kit: Alolan Sandslash & Alolan Ninetales}}. They have gray circles at the bottom right of the card with the numbers 14 and 29 in them, respectively, so that the deck can be put in order for a practice duel. Variants of the Guardians Rising print were available again as part of the French {{TCG|McDonald's Collection 2018}}, both as Non Holofoil and Reverse Confetti Holofoil cards.

This card features the Alolan [[regional variant]] of {{p|Sandshrew}}. {{m|Defense Curl}} and {{m|Ice Ball}} are both [[move]]s in the [[Pokémon games]] that {{alo|Sandshrew}} can learn. This card's [[Pokédex]] entry comes from {{g|Sun}}.
