(→‎Obtaining Pokémon with Egg Moves: it's very specific, but/and it's the first occurence chronologically AFAIK ("mass outbreak" is the term used in Emerald, if policy/whatever requires not to link there directly, please at least preserve that text))

For example, Tentacool can learn both Rapid Spin and Mirror Coat as Egg Moves, but no Pokémon in the Water 3 Egg Group can possess both moves at the same time in any game prior to Generation VI, so it is impossible for Tentacool to inherit both moves together. However, starting in Generation VI, both parents are able to pass down Egg Moves at the same time, making it possible for a Tentacool to inherit these moves if each of its parents knows one of the moves.

Incense breeding
Another situation that may cause Egg Moves to be mutually-exclusive is when the offspring of a certain species may hatch either as the baby form (when the parent is holding the appropriate Incense) or as the first evolution. This happens because a baby Pokémon may have different Egg Moves than its evolution.
For example, starting in Generation VI, a Roselia can only learn Extrasensory as an Egg Move if it hatched as a Budew, but can also only learn Bullet Seed when hatched as a Roselia. As a result, a Roselia cannot know both moves simultaneously.
