:::From this preview image of Pokémon: I Choose You movie, we can at least confirm that Ash's Butterfree in M20 is indeed male. Why? Because the Pink Butterfree has dark scales at the bottom of her wings while Ash's Butterfree lacks them. As this movie is updated to the current Pokémon generation, there is no reason to add their genders to at least acknowledge the movie's interpretation.Shadao (talk) 10:38, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
::::It was confirmed before I Choose You!. In the actual Japanese version, when Butterfree heads out, Ash tells Butterfree he'd explain to his Pokémon that Butterfree ventured out with a cute girlfriend. The precise wording he used was "kawaii kanojo (かわいい かのじょ). Pretty sure that was rock-solid proof before I Choose You!, since this entire thing was about Ash's Butterfree going out to have babies. So you may wanna rethink where the gender was confirmed.--Darknesslover5000 (talk) 18:17, 29 May 2018 (UTC)
:::Actually, Butterfree has no purple dots on the bottom, so this means Butterfree is a male. See List of Pokemon with Gendergender Differencesdifferences. --Herowho (User talk:Herowho|talk]]) 10:14 AM, June 20, 2019
