Gary's cheerleaders: Difference between revisions

'''Gary's cheerleaders''' (Japanese: '''シゲル応援ギャル''' ''Shigeru's cheering gals'') were a group of girls, also considered friends, that traveled with {{Gary}} during his [[Pokémon journey]]. Six of them helped to cheer Gary on, much like real-life {{wp|cheerleading|cheerleaders}} at sporting events. While a silent seventh member of the entourage chauffeured the group around in a red convertible car.

They made their debut in [[EP001|the first episode]], where they were seen outside [[Professor Oak's Laboratory]] cheering for Gary as he received [[Gary's Blastoise|his starter]]. Their motto is:  

The entourage continued to feature alongside Gary, and were seen in ''[[EP018|Beauty and the Beach]]'', ''[[EP031|Dig Those Diglett!]]'', ''[[EP046|Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon]]'', and ''[[EP058|Riddle Me This]]''.

His cheerleaders watched Gary challenge {{an|Giovanni}} to a [[Gym]] battle in ''[[EP063|The Battle of the Badge]]''. However, they were frightened and later upset when Gary lost to [[Mewtwo (original series)|Mewtwo]]. Later, they watched Ash take on the [[Team Rocket trio]], who served as temprorary [[Gym Leader]]s while Giovanni had business to attend to. Ash went on to earn himself the {{Badge|Earth}}, despite the evil trio's attempts to cheat, and Gary's cheerleaders cheered for him:  

The cheerleaders supported Gary through his [[Indigo Plateau Conference]] campaign, beginning in ''[[EP074|All Fired Up!]]''. The group were left distraught after Gary's loss to [[Melissa]] in ''[[EP077|The Fourth Round Rumble]]'', and they all left the [[Indigo Plateau]] with Gary soon after.

The cheerleaders were then absent for most of the [[Johto League]]. They finally reappeared in ''[[EP269|The Ties that Bind]]'' and ''[[EP270|Can't Beat the Heat!]]'' to support Gary as he competed against {{Ash}} in a [[Full Battle]] round during the [[Silver Conference]]. Unlike the previous battles, they did not start crying when Gary lost to Ash. The cheerleaders haven't been seen since Gary decided to become a {{pkmn|Professor|Pokémon Researcher}} like his {{an|Professor Oak|grandfather}}.

Gary's cheerleaders are a lively group with exuberant personalities. They enjoy a life of luxury, and were shown in ''[[EP058|Riddle Me This]]'' taking a holiday in a private [[Cinnabar Island]] hotel suite while {{Gary}} also rested in preparation for the upsoming [[Indigo Plateau Conference]].

Their beauty and incredible support for their friend and hero Gary often made {{Ash}} jealous. Their rhyming slogans and pep bolstered Gary's own confidence, which also helped to inflame his ego, during his [[Pokémon journey]]. The girls were shown to cry when Gary lost a challenge, as seen in ''[[EP063|The Battle of the Badge]]'' and again in ''[[EP077|The Fourth Round Rumble]]''.
