My view on this has always been that Leaf and Green are two separate characters derived from the unused Gen I trainer. :::If "Leaf" and Green were intended to be separate, then their designs should reflect that, similar to Kris and Lyra, yet they don't. If a simple outfit change is enough to make a whole new character, then, for example, May from RS is not the same from E, and neither are the same from ORAS. : I agree there isn't much sense in keeping "Leaf" in the infobox and opening paragraph. Even with the Kotobukiya figure being named that, it was never used in the games, so it should be irrelevant. As said, it's just a placeholder name. I recall Red being officially called "Ash" ages ago in a poll asking about what Nintendo characters players would like to see Smash, yet we're not calling him "Red/Ash" in his infobox, are we?
