===Origin===
Deino is based on a {{wp|dragon}}, specifically an infant form of the {{wp|Yamata no Orochi}}, or possibly even {{wp|Slavic dragon#Balkan Slavic dragons|Zmey Gorynych}}. Due to its blindness and onlythe beingfact that it is only found near water in a [[Victory Road (Black and White)|cave]], Deino may also be based on a {{wp|cave salamander}}.

According to interviews with [[Ken Sugimori]] in ''Nintendo Dream'', Deino and its evolutionary family were originally intended to be cyborg dragons with aspects of {{wp|tank}}s. TheThese Pokémon designs were scrapped until late in development, when they were revived and remade to be based on Yamata no Orochi.
