A long time ago, on a clifftop, a woman called Aila tries to convince Jan not to leave but Jan promises her that he will be the Legendary Pokémon Yveltal and asks her to wait for him before sending Jan (SS036) into the air before riding out on his Jan (SS036), leaving Aila behind. In the present day, Professor Sycamore is walking towards some ruins and stops to look at a picture of a Maiden Statue. At the ruins, Alexa and Alexa are documenting as a group of workers are doing some excavating when Professor Sycamore arrives on scene and they greet each other. Alexa asks Professor Sycamore if he is here to investigate the ruins with Professor Sycamore confirms, saying that it is the find of the century as they are the ruins that can confirm the truth of a Kalos legend but didn't expect it to be found at such a high altitude whilst Alexa is amazed that they hadn't been discovered before. Professor Sycamore asks about the location of the Maiden Statue and Alexa takes him along a passage to where it is, explaining that it was accidentally discovered by satellite image, a temple like structure overgrown by nature and because of the treacherous location, it took some time for a research team to arrive. Professor Sycamore asks Alexa on why she accompanied the research team who replied that through the discovery of various artifacts, they had known that an ancient civilization had lived here which had become the foundation of civilization in Kalos and wanted to report on the lives of people and Pokémon who were living at the time. Arriving at the location, Professor Sycamore spots the stone statue of Aila as described in the legend of Kalos. Alexa says that it was as if someone took a picture of her life and carved it into stone as Professor Sycamore brings up the historical records and tells Alexa that they have come to known this part of the legend as the Stone-Eyed Maiden. Looking at her hair and necklace, Professor Sycamore notes that the records show perfectly matches the statue, much to Alexa's surprise as Professor Sycamore says that for a long time, people have debated as to whether or not what was written had actually taken place or fabricated by someone during ancient times and now that they have the statue, they may get the answer. Alexa asks Professor Sycamore if that means the statue wasn't a figment of someone's imagination and didn't base it on the records which Professor Sycamore says can't be ruled out but Aila's expression doesn't make it an ordinary statue and that the Stone-Eyed Maiden actually existed and the one responsible for turning her to stone was the Destruction Pokémon Yveltal. Professor Sycamore tells Alexa that the symbol in the records resembling a Y is a reference to Yveltal and from the drawings they have of it, they look the same.

Professor Sycamore tells the story of two different people from two different social classes, a young poor man called Jan and Aila, the daughter of the village chief who met and fell in love with each other whilst at the same time, the oracle of the village Olympica had made a prediction that Yveltal would descend upon the land and absorb the life force of all living things before its life will come to an end, before becoming a cocoon once more and tells the villagers that it would be impossible for them to escape this fate. Professor Sycamore continues the story saying that once Aila's father learnt of the prophecy, he ordered Jan to defeat Yveltal in order to protect the city with his daughter's hand in marriage as his reward for success. In the past, before Jan set off, Aila tells Jan that he doesn't have to listen to her father's promise, noting that Yveltal is extremely dangerous and no one will be able to defeat it so not to try and as Jan sets off, asking her to wait for him, Jan is alerting by a screeching noise and turns around and sees that Yveltal has appeared behind Aila and goes to protect Aila. Aila tells him to stay away as Jan fires several arrows from his bow at Yveltal before ordering Talonflame to attack with Flame Charge but Yveltal strikes Talonflame with Oblivion Wing, turning it into stone as it falls towards the ground as Oblivion Wing turns the temple to stone as Jan goes to attack Yveltal, Yveltal fires another Oblivion Wing at Jan but Aila runs in front of the attack, turning to stone as Jan is thrown off the cliff as Yveltal flies away. Alexa asks what became of Yveltal afterwards and Professor Sycamore says that just as the prediction said, Yveltal turned into a cocoon and absorbed all of the life forces around it, leaving the land barren, allowing Yveltal to enter a long slumber. The cocoon fell into a river and sunk before the water. Jan had climbed back up the cliff and saw that Aila had turned to stone and becomes upset and strokes her stone face. Alexa asks if they know where Yveltal is now and Professor Sycamore says that the theory is that Yveltal wakes every 1,000 years but right now, they are uncertain whether is awake and active. In the past, Jan and Gogoat are still by Aila's statue when they are approached by Olympica and her two Olympica who informs him that the precious few that survived have left and will be leaving as well as Jan asks her why this had taken place but Olympica says that there is once chance of rescuing Aila and says that Xerneas may be able to bring her back and explains that Xerneas is Yveltal's equal, known as the Life Pokémon and that when Xerneas transforms into a large tree, it shares its power with the land and that sharing can bring the most barren land back to life. Jan asks Olympica if she knows where Xerneas is and instructs him to find a forest that glimmers like a rainbow as wherever Xerneas is, that forest flourishes.
