EP019: Difference between revisions

Following the {{wp|September 11th terrorist attacks}}, this episode was [[banned episodes|banned]] in the United States by {{DL|Pokémon in the United States|Kids' WB!}}, for depicting the wide-scale destruction of large buildings. The attacks consisted of four commercial airliners being hijacked by Islamist radicals and crashed into One World Trade Center, Two World Trade Center, and the Pentagon; the former two buildings caught fire and eventually collapsed. For several years, the attacks led to increased public sensitivity towards fictional depictions of violence (especially that of a pyrotechnical kind), destruction of buildings, and depictions of the 1973 World Trade Center (which was completely destroyed by the attacks). However, "Tentacool and Tentacruel" was once again aired when {{DL|Pokémon in the United States|Cartoon Network}} began airing the series, having reached a point in time where the post-9/11 hysteria had mostly died down. It was also included with the release of the [[List of English language Indigo League home video releases (Region 1)#Boxed sets|Pokémon: Indigo League DVD pack]]. Incidentally, a major contributor to the banning of this episode was Tentacruel's destruction of a skyscraper, but the scene remained visible in the [[Pokémon Theme|opening sequence]] during the post-9/11 coping period.
