 The episode begins with {{Ash}}, {{an|Misty}} and {{an|Brock}} deciding whether to go to [[Onix Tunnel]] just before sunset. Brock says that it is a tunnel full of {{p|Onix}}, while Ash replies by saying that Onix are weak to water suggesting he will use {{AP|Squirtle}}. Then he remembers he left Squirtle with the [[Squirtle Squad]]. Misty replies by saying that her water Pokémon will do the job. Finally they decide to wait until morning to enter the tunnel. {{an|Jigglypuff}} follows them, and {{TP|Madam Muchmoney|Snubbull}} follows closely behind. Next, [[Jessie]], [[James]], and {{MTR}} are shown at the cave's entrance, and tell us that it is morning. They attempt to pass the tunnel, but three {{p|Onix}} are blocking the way. James calls out his {{TP|James|Victreebel}}. He orders Victreebel to use {{m|Razor Leaf}},but the Onix don't seem affected by it. They reply by using {{m|Rock Throw}}, hitting their head against the wall making huge boulders fall from the ceiling. Next Jessie calls her {{TP|Jessie|Arbok}} only to be {{m|Bind|binded}} by one of the Onix. After that, Jessie throws Meowth at the Onix in order to use {{m|Fury Swipes}}. The Onix reply by using Rock Throw again. {{TRT}} runs out of the tunnel, and decides to steal {{an|Misty|Misty's}} {{type|Water}} Pokémon in order to counter the Onix. {{TP|Jessie|Wobbuffet}} comes out of its ball only to be returned back. A quick flashback follows, including {{TP|Misty|Psyduck}}, {{TP|Misty|Staryu}}, {{TP|Misty|Togepi}}, {{TP|Misty|Poliwag}}, and {{TP|Misty|Goldeen}}.
-Meanwhile, Ash is sitting by the water washing his face, Brock is doing exercises with {{TP|Brock|Pineco}} and Misty is scolding her Psyduck for its habit of putting its hands on its head. Brock asks Pineco if he's ready to have some fun, Pineco replying with his usual explosion. Ash begins to notice a somewhat familiar {{TP|Madame Muchmoney|Snubbull|Granbull}}. Misty says that it's obviously the Snubbull that belongs to [[Madame Muchmoney]]. Then, a short flashback follows, with Snubbull biting Meowth's tail, which was part of {{TRT}}'s plan to lure Snubbull into their trap. Ash wonders what it is doing here with Misty thinking that probably Snubbull didn't like living in a fancy mansion. Then Ash notices that it could've sniffed something out. Then Snubbull runs away. The gang gives chase to Snubbull. While, they're doing that, Team Rocket in disguise is looking for Misty while daydreaming about the water Pokémon. The scene turns back to the chasing of Snubbull. He runs away, while {{an|Jigglypuff}} appears and starts singing putting them to sleep along with Team Rocket.

A quick flashback with Misty and her Togepi appears followed by Jessie saying she is glad to have a Pokémon to cuddle. Wobbuffet comes out again, while Meowth saying he must choose between him or Snubbull. Team Rocket reply by welcoming Snubbull to the team with Meowth leaving. Next, the gang along with Jigglypuff arrive to Team Rocket's food pitfall trap. Jigglypuff runs to it falling in the hole. Ash sends his {{AP|Bulbasaur}} to get Jigglypuff out of the hole. It becomes angry, runs toward two more pitfalls with Bulbasaur taking it out of both holes. It angers again and runs, while the gang follows it.

 In the meantime, Team Rocket notices Meowth's absence. Snubbull jumps from Jessie's hands and runs away. The scene turns to Meowth deciding to return to Jessie and James but quickly changing his mind. Next the gang is shown searching for Snubbull. The scene reverts to Meowth standing near the Onix Tunnel with a sad Jigglypuff joining him. They start to talk, with Meowth reaching a conclusion they should start their own team named the Dream Team only to be interrupted by Snubbull biting his tail. Jessie and James appear while Jigglypuff tries to take its microphone back. Meowth intervenes between them only to be caught in the fight. The gang appears and breaks the fight.

Chikorita attempts to use Vine Whip but is {{m|Counter|countered}} by Wobbuffet. Poliwag uses Water Gun succeeding in breaking Wobbuffet's counter and throwing it, Victreebel and Arbok back to Team Rocket. Pikachu uses {{m|Thunderbolt}} and sends them blasting off. Snubbull runs away leaving the microphone behind.
