The '''Rage Candy Bar''' (Japanese: '''いかりまんじゅう''' ''Rage {{wp|Manjū}}'') is an [[item]] available in the [[Generation II]] games, {{game|HeartGold and SoulSilver|s}}, and in every game since [[Generation V]]. It has also been mentioned in {{game|FireRed and LeafGreen|s}} as well as in {{game|Platinum}}.

===In Generation II===

The Rage Candy Bar first appeared in [[Generation II]]. It is a local specialty of [[Mahogany Town]], in the same vein as the [[Lavaridge Town]]'s {{DL|Status ailment healing item|Lava Cookie}} is in later [[generation]]s. The first place in which the [[item]] can be bought is from a salesman blocking the way out of Mahogany Town (who is there to prevent the {{player}} from skipping the [[Lake of Rage]] and [[Team Rocket HQ|Rocket Hideout]] events of the plot); he sells these for {{PDollar}}300. Once the [[Red Gyarados]] has been captured or defeated, he stops selling the item. The Rage Candy Bar remains unavailable until the {{tc|Executive|Rocket Executives}} have been defeated at the [[Goldenrod Radio Tower]]. After this, it can be purchased from the [[Mahogany Town]] {{DL|Mahogany Town|Souvenir Shop}} for the same price.

In these games, the Rage Candy Bar acts like a {{DL|Potion|Potion}} by healing 20 {{stat|HP}}.

Though the [[item]] does not exist in the internal data of the [[Generation III]] and [[Sinnoh]]-based [[Generation IV]] games, it is mentioned repeatedly. In {{game|FireRed and LeafGreen|s}}, it is mentioned by a [[Non-player character|NPC]] in {{OBP|Two Island|town}} on [[Boon Island]], who claims that is the favorite delicacy of [[Bruno]] of the {{DL|Elite Four|Kanto/Johto Elite Four|Kanto Elite Four}}, who left the island disappointed when he discovered that the shop was sold out of them. No mention is made in {{game|Diamond and Pearl|s}} but in {{game|Platinum}} it is claimed to be sold out in the [[Veilstone Department Store]]'s basement. It is also said to be favored by [[Professor Rowan]], who can be found occasionally in the basement of the Veilstone Department Store sulking about the fact that the mall has run out of them.

The Rage Candy Bar reappears as an [[item]] in {{game|HeartGold and SoulSilver|s}}. It is available in [[Mahogany Town]] only, like in [[Generation II]], but this time around it is a [[key item]]. This prevents the {{player}} from [[Trade|trading]] it to {{game2|Diamond|Pearl|Platinum}}, where data for the item does not exist. The Rage Candy Bar is not a healing item in these games; instead, it is a key item that may be exchanged with a [[Non-player character|NPC]] in the [[Underground Path (Routes 5-6)|Underground Path]] on {{rt|5|Kanto|Routes 5}} and {{rt|6|Kanto|6}} for {{TM|64|Explosion}}.

Unlike in the original {{game|Gold and Silver|s}} (and {{game|Crystal}}), the man blocking the way east of Mahogany Town will still sell the Rage Candy Bar for {{PDollar}}300 after the [[Team Rocket]] invasion is foiled instead of the {{DL|Mahogany Town|Souvenir Shop}} lady. Despite this, he will refuse to sell more than one.

===In Generation V===

The Rage Candy Bar makes its return as a regular [[item]] in [[Generation V]] and works in the same way as in [[Generation II]], healing a {{OBP|Pokémon|species}}'s {{stat|HP}} by 20.

In {{game|Black and White|s}}, it is first obtainable in the house in the southeast corner of [[Icirrus City]] during the {{DL|Seasons|winter}}, where the wife of the former {{tc|Team Rocket Grunt}} that stole the {{key|IV|Machine Part}} from [[Power Plant|Kanto's Power Plant]] gives it as a gift saying that Rage Candy Bars hold the family together. Another one can be obtained from {{prof|Juniper}} in [[Desert Resort]] after defeating [[Team Plasma]] and [[Ghetsis]] at [[N's Castle]].

 

In {{game|Black and White|s 2|Pokémon Black 2 and White 2}}, the {{player}} can get four Rage Candy Bars at [[Pokéstar Studios]] after recording a movie with a good ending, each from a {{tc|Smasher}}, {{tc|Ace Trainer}}, {{tc|Socialite}}, and a young boy in red. Others can be purchased at [[Join Avenue]] {{DL|Join Avenue|Market}}s.

 

In all Generation V games, Rage Candy Bars are also obtained by defeating all the {{pkmn|Trainer}}s in the [[Royal Unova]] on {{DL|Days of the week|Saturday}}s and a {{tc|Maid}} on {{rt|5|Unova}} will pay {{PDollar}}6000 for a Rage Candy Bar.

In [[Generation II]], the [[item]]'s name is spelled in all caps and with no spaces, thus rendering it as "<sc>Ragecandybar</sc>".

When referred to in {{game|FireRed and LeafGreen|s}}, it is instead rendered as "Rage Candybar" as it is mentioned exclusively in dialogue due to it not being an item in these games. Likewise in {{game|Platinum}}, the item is only specified in dialogue but its name is rendered normally as "Rage Candy Bar".

After returning to its status as an [[item]] in {{game|HeartGold and SoulSilver|s}} and in all [[Generation V]] games, it is spelled in {{wp|CamelCase}} (as "RageCandyBar"), due to the twelve-character limit and capitalization change for item names.

 

Due to the character limit being bumped in [[Generation VI]], the item's name is now rendered correctly as "Rage Candy Bar".

The Rage Candy Bar is based on the Japanese {{wp|manjū}}, a type of pounded rice cake. Manjū are sold in Japan as {{wp|confectionery}}, and are often unique to certain places (much as the Rage Candy Bar is to [[Mahogany Town]]). A direct translation would thus prove confusing for English-speaking {{player}}s, providing reasoning behind naming it as a {{wp|Chocolate bar|candy bar}}. Its in-[[Bag]] sprite depicts it in a small box, which could pass for a candy bar wrapper, preventing revelation of the translation issue.

 

According to [[Nob Ogasawara]], under his alias of ''Douglas Dinsdale'' (also ''Doug Dinsdale''), in a thread<ref>[http://lparchive.org/Pokemon-Blue/code.html Lets Break PKMN Blue Thread Bits.txt] (itself found [http://lparchive.org/Pokemon-Blue/ here])</ref> apparently archived from the [http://forums.somethingawful.com/ Something Awful] forums and available at the ''[http://lparchive.org/ Let's Play Archive]'', the name ''Rage Candy Bar'' is a mistranslation that was decided by his handlers at Nintendo of America. He claims that the correct translation of いかりまんじゅう is "Rage {{wp|Dumpling}}" or, due to the character limit, "Rage {{wp|Bun}}". The name ''Cake of Rage'' was also suggested by him for the English localization<ref>[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Woolseyism/VideoGames Woolseyism/Video Games - Television Tropes & Idioms]</ref>, which would match the [[Lake of Rage]].
