The English release was October 5, 2012, four days before the start of the North American Autumn Regionals. This caused much controversy due to the possible introduction of new cards into the {{TCG|Modified Format}} days before such a high leveled Premier Tournament; however, the collection was not made legal in Modified Tournament Play until October 15th, 2012—one day after the end of the tournament. Much like the Japanese set, Dragon Vault contained all Holofoil cards. However, the English release adds 1 card—{{TCG ID|Dragon Vault|Kyurem|21}}—as a {{TCG|Secret card}}, originally handed out as one of the {{TCG|BW-P Promotional cards}} in Japan at the Battle Carnival Spring 2012: World Challenge Tournament.

All Dragon Vault packs contain 5 cards instead of the regular 10, and were available in {{merch|Black & White|Dragon Vault Blisters}}. There were also 5 promotional cards available in these Blisters: {{TCG ID|Dragon Vault|Latias|9}}, {{TCG ID|Dragon Vault|Latios|10}}, {{TCG ID|Dragon Vault|Rayquaza|11}}, {{TCG ID|Dragon Vault|Haxorus|16}}, and {{TCG ID|Dragon Vault|Druddigon|17}}. All are variants of those found in the sub-set with a Dragon Vault set logo stamp on the artwork.
