The story starts with [[Professor Elm]] scolding {{adv|Professor Oak}} for not introducing him to Crystal. He then tells Chikorita that he cannot go with {{adv|Crystal}} on her adventure. Feeling angry, Chikorita scratches Elm on the face and runs away. Next, Crystal is at {{rt|30|Johto}} and is trying to capture a {{p|Victreebel}}. She tells [[Archy]] to use {{m|Ember}} when Chikorita suddenly appears. Seeing a way to escape, Victreebel uses Chikorita as a shield. Crystal then tells [[Crystal (Adventures)#In box|Chumee]] to use {{m|Mean Look}} and she then captures them. Crystal is glad to be able to catch both of them and tells Chikorita that she is going to send both of them to Professor Oak. Chikorita disagrees and signals that he wants to stay with her. Crystal is happy to hear that but she tells him that she cannot bring a Pokémon that is weak. Chikorita replies by flexing his muscles.
