The etymology of Ho-oh is not derived from the Chinese FengHuang, but rather the Japanese equivalent which is simply called the Hō-ō. The mythologies of both oriental phoenixes are quite similar, the only difference is the name. Ho-oh is simply a morphed version of Hō-ō, which is the real Japanese version of the phoenix. == Mythological Origin ==
I've been doing some reading, and research, and I personally believe that Ho oh is more closely related to the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermilion_Bird Vermilion Bird], which I find is interesting, as in the page that discusses the origin of the bird, mentions nothing even remotely about the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermilion_Bird Vermilion Bird]. but the mention of the bird is actually associated with {{p|Moltres}} who has much less in common with the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermilion_Bird Vermilion Bird] than Ho oh does, and I think it's a pertinent reference, as the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermilion_Bird Vermilion Bird] and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feng_Huang Feng Huang] are often confused on their own, and even visually, I think ho oh more likely resembles the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermilion_Bird Vermilion Bird] rather than [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feng_Huang Feng Huang]. I'd like to hear other peoples thoughts on this and whether this should be incorporated or changed. [[User:Nehari|Nehari]] ([[User talk:Nehari|talk]]) 03:41, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
