The layout of the Canalave gym is a maze, and you have to use the mining elevators to find your way around this place. Make sure your team not only has {{t|Fire}}, {{t|Ground}}, and {{type|Fighting}} Pokémon, but also include moves of those types that do special damage since the {{type|Steel}} Pokémon found here have higher defense which make physical moves less useful unless you use stronger and more reliable physical moves like {{m|Earthquake}}, {{m|Revenge}}, {{m|Cross Chop}}, or {{m|Close Combat}} to help make it easier. Out of the special moves {{p|Lucario}} or {{p|Togekiss}}'s {{m|Aura Sphere}} or {{m|Flamethrower}} will be helpful here, as well as {{m|Mud Bomb}} or {{m|Earth Power}} if you have them.
