::It depends on what type of junk got on it. I've seen older games freeze when the cartridge is dirty. It's not often, and hard to make happen, because most of the time it won't read it. But for a lot of games that use discs, such as Playstation, X Box, and computers, if a certain part of the disc is scratched or dirty, the game will freeze, kind of like a DVD. DVDs can skip that certain part though, but games can't.

::On the topic of dropping, I have dropped my DS and frozen Pearl before. More than once, actually. And I might have done it with Mario Kart once... so it's not uncommon for it to freeze, but I think it has to hit near the hinged part, because that's where the game is read. I had my DS on the couch and took my dog for a very long walk.  When I got back, I instantly jumped onto the couch and forgot the game was there.  I jumped so hard the DS went flying across the room and landed upside-down on the floor.  It caused some minor graphical glitches and the screen was cracked, but it didn't freeze.  I seiously don't think droping it would cause a game freeze.
