::When I mentioned about Pikachu being at a higher level, I was referring to the fact that it has been trained for a very long time compared to Snivy being recently obtained and yet, Snivy was able to receive its first win easily. There had to be some sort of connection. PattyMan 00:22, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

::: Here's something that Nurse Joy said in Tracey Gets Bugged: Sometimes speed and power can overcome even the most experienced Pokémon. Not to mention Pikachu wasn't right at the time. It was caught off guard is what happened. And this isn't even the first time this has happened to Pikachu. Remember when it battled Paul's Elekid? I'm sure that wasn't as experienced as Pikachu and yet the battle ended in a draw. The anime likes to make Ash lose to a new rival as a plot device. It's as simple as that. --ケンジ'の'ガール 00:30, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

::::Not only Pikachu was caught off guard, it was in horrible condition as it was starting to get very tired, giving Snivy room to attack. The anime increases the suspense every time Ash loses to the new rival even making the league battle between them very intense, not only a plot device was given. PattyMan 02:35, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
