 Zuruggu hatched from its egg shortly after and it wasted no time showing off its headstrong nature. When {{AP|Pikachu}} tried to greet it, it used {{m|Leer}} on him and then {{m|Headbutt}}ed him. It later tried to pick fights with Ash's other Pokémon. Since it was newly hatched, it was easily subdued by weak attacks. Ash attempted to catch it with his Poké Ball but Zuruggu refused, still feeling unsure.
-Later, Zuruggu wandered off and started headbutting a tree which was the home of a group of {{p|Denchura}}. It became {{status|poison|poisoned}} by Denchura's {{m|Poison Sting}} and needed to be healed. With no [[Pokémon Center]]s around, {{an|Iris}} quickly made up a potion for it to cure its poison status. It felt better the next morning and left to confront the Denchura that attacked it. Again it was outmatched and was saved by Ash and the rest of his Pokémon. Seeing what they were willing to do for it, Zuruggu began to trust its new teammates and its new Trainer.
