The episode opens at the Battle Frontier (Generation III). Maria and Samuel arrive with the news that "a mysterious group of people" have sealed off Snowpoint Temple. Pyramid King orders Maria and Samuel to board the pyramid so they can go to the temple and see what is going on. Ash, Brock, and Dawn insist on going too, and Brandon consents. Team Rocket, around the corner of the pyramid, overhear and decide that they will tag alongThe Battle Pyramid takes off, with Team Rocket holding on.
The episode starts with the Battle Frontier (Generation III) in the sky, with Team Rocket holding on to it. Pyramid King asks Ash if he knew the legend of the Snowpoint Temple. Maria explains that it happened long ago. A volcano erupted violently and burned Snowpoint City to a fire pool. In front of a blue light appeared Regigigas. Not only that, Regice, Regirock, and Registeel also appeared to protect the city. Regigigas then went into a deep sleep and the Regi trio turned into pillars in Snowpoint Temple. Brandon suggested that the person behind that is aiming for Regigigas. Meanwhile, Team Rocket heard it and decided to capture Regigigas and present it to Giovanni, but they accidentally let go and fell off. Samuel show Snowpoint Temple on a screen and everybody sees Hunter J. Brandon explains to Maria that J was the one who treated Pokémon as tools. Brandon also explains to the gang that they came here to do research on the legend. J's henchmen see the Battle Pyramid and inform J. Inside the temple, J tells her henchmen not to let them get near, so they send many Metang and Skarmory to attack the Pyramid using Sludge Bomb and Flash Cannon, respectively. One of the engines is hit, and the Pyramid falls to the ground. Brandon, Maria and the gang goes off with a small airship while Samuel stays in the Pyramid to repair it. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt on the Skarmory and Dawn uses BubbleBeam on the Metang. After defeating J's henchmen's Pokémon, the gang runs in the temple.

Meanwhile, J sees the three pillars. J sends out J and commands it to use Hyper Beam. The ice and rock pillars are soon destroyed. As Salamence is about to destroy the steel pillar, Brandon asks it to stop. Maria proceeds to explain that awakening Regigigas will put everything in danger. However, Salamence soon destroys the steel pillar and a crystal ball-like object begins glowing. Regigigas is still not awakened, and J commands Salamence to use Flamethrower and a triangle begins glowing. A red light appears from the triangle and Regigigas appears. It then begins using Hyper Beam. Just as J is about to turn Regigigas to stone using her bracelet, Regigigas uses Hyper Beam at her. This is countered by her Salamence's Dragon Pulse. J then retreats as Regigigas starts to go on a rampage. As the temple starts to collapse and rocks are about to fall on them, Brandon sends out his Brandon's Regis, Brandon's Regis and Brandon's Regis. Regirock uses Focus Punch, Regice uses Zap Cannon and Registeel uses Iron Head to destroy the rocks. They then flee the temple.
Inside the pyramid, Pyramid King asks Ash if he has heard the legend of Snowpoint Temple. Ash says he would like to hear it, and Maria begins. Long ago, there was a violent volcanic eruption that turned the once-beautiful Snowpoint Forest into a sea of lava. Out of a bright blue light, Regigigas appeared with the legendary golems. The four stopped the volcanic eruption, saving Snowpoint City. Afterwards, Regigigas went into a deep sleep in the Snowpoint Temple, protected by Regirock, Regice, and Registeel, who had transformed into guardian pillars.  Brandon guesses that the mysterious people are after Regigigas. Meanwhile, clinging to the pyramid, Team Rocket overhears and decide to capture Regigigas for Giovanni. In their excitement, they accidentally let go and blast off.

The exit is blocked, but Regigigas manages to get out. Regigigas continues to use Hyper Beam. Brandon decides to capture it to calm it down. The legendary golems use Hyper Beam on Regigigas, and Regigigas counters it with its own Hyper Beam. The Regis then start to attack together, but Regigigas pins them down. Registeel and Regirock then grab hold of Regigigas and Regice uses Ice Beam, Freeze Regigigas. J is overlooking them and states that it would be better to use their power to help her weaken Regigigas. Regigigas, however, manages to defrost. Regice uses Zap Cannon and Regigigas is Paralyze. After that, Registeel uses Iron Head and Regigigas falls. Regirock uses Stone Edge, making Regigigas very weak. Just as Brandon is about to capture Regigigas with a Poké Ball, J's Ariados uses its String Shot to tie them up. After J returns Ariados to its Poké Ball, Regigigas's eyes begin to glow and so do the eyes of the Regis'. Regirock and Regice use Zap Cannon and Registeel uses Flash Cannon to attack J. Maria explains that it was the same as the legend, the Regis had become the guardian of Regigigas. The four legendary Pokémon then start to go away from the temple, so J follows them.
Samuel shows the entrance to the temple on a screen, revealing a figure whom Ash recognizes as Hunter J. Brandon tells Maria and Samuel about J, also telling Ash and friends that he is here to do research on the legend, which has basis in fact. As Ash presents the idea of stopping J from catching Regigigas, J's henchmen see the Pyramid and inform J. J orders her henchmen not to let the Pyramid get near, and they send out a virtual army of Metang and Skarmory to attack the Pyramid with Sludge Bomb and Flash Cannon, respectively. One of the engines is hit, forcing an emergency landing. Brandon, Maria and the gang leave in a small airship, while Samuel stays to repair the Pyramid’s motor. The henchmen notice the small craft, and order their Pokémon to attack, but the gang is saved by Pikachu, who uses Thunderbolt on the Skarmory, and Dawn, who uses BubbleBeam on the Metang. After defeating the Pokémon, Brandon, Maria, and the gang run into the temple.

All four Pokémon start to attack the mountains using Hyper Beam together. Brandon tries to return his Pokémon to their Poké Balls, but his attempts fail. Regice then uses Zap Cannon at Brandon but, luckily, Brandon dodges it. Dawn explains that it seems the four Regis are heading towards the city.
Meanwhile, J has reached the three pillars and sends out J, commanding it to destroy them with Hyper Beam.  The ice and rock pillars are easily destroyed, and, just when Salamence is about to destroy the steel pillar, Brandon yells for J to stop.  Maria explains that awakening Regigigas is a bad idea, but Salamence destroys the steel pillar anyway.  A small blue ball between where the pillars once stood has begun to glow, but, other than that, there is no sign of Regigigas’ awakening.  J commands Salamence to use Flamethrower, much to Brandon’s dismay.  Suddenly, a triangle on the floor that had connected the pillars begins to glow, and Regigigas appears, immediately using Hyper Beam on the temple’s walls and ceiling. J prepares to turn Regigigas to stone, but Regigigas stops her with Hyper Beam, forcing Salemence to counter it with Dragon Pulse. J retreats while Regigigas goes on a rampage.  As the temple starts to collapse, Brandon sends out his Brandon's Regis, Brandon's Regis and Brandon's Regis. The golems save the gang from being buried in falling rock by using Focus Punch, Zap Cannon and Iron Head, respectively.  The gang escape, protected by the golems, right before the temple collapses into a pile of rubble. Just when Brock notes that Regigigas cannot escape the rubble, it suddenly breaks out, still shooting Hyper Beam in every direction.

Once in the forest, the Regis start using Hyper Beam. Team Rocket still have plans to capture Regigigas, but Registeel blasts them off using Flash Cannon. Back near the temple, Piplup tries to bite the web while Brandon, Ash and Pikachu struggle to break free. Brock then had an idea. He told Maria that he is happy to be with her and he would never let go of the web that tied them together. Brock then come out and uses Poison Jab on him, breaking the web. Over the Battle Pyramid's speaker, Samuel explains that the Pyramid needed more time to repair. Brandon told him to inform Officer Jenny to protect the city.
Brandon decides to calm Regigigas down by attempting a capture.  His golems use Hyper Beam, but Regigigas counters it with a Hyper Beam of its own. The golems then charge Regigigas to use Focus Punch together, but Regigigas pins them down. Regirock and Registeel then grab onto Regigigas, and Regice uses Ice Beam, Freeze Regigigas along with Regirock and Registeel.

Meanwhile, J uses her airship to get ahead of the legendary Pokémon. She and her henchmen are ready to capture Regigigas. The four Regis reach the area where she is. J's airship shoot lasers at them, and the Regis counter it with Hyper Beam. The lasers manage to shoot them though. After that, the airship shoots gum at Regigigas, trapping it. Regigigas then uses Hyper Beam, destroying one of the airship's engines. J tells the henchmen to get the airship out of Regigigas's firing range. The three Regis continue to use Hyper Beam at J, but she manages to dodge all of them. Just as J is about to use her bracelet to turn Regigigas to stone, Regirock protects it, and Registeel soon after, and finally Regice, turning to stone in the process. With no one to protect Regigigas, J uses the bracelet once again, however Brandon jumped down and was hit by the light, turning him to stone too. Regigigas catches him before he hits the ground. J uses her bracelet once again but Pikachu uses Thunderbolt and Piplup uses BubbleBeam. J counters with Dragon Pulse. Regigigas gets free of the gum and stands in front of the airship. It deflects the Dragon Pulse back to Salamence, with J's bracelet destroyed in the process. Just as J is about to attack Regigigas once more, her henchmen reply that her client decided to cancel his deal with J. Immediately, she and her henchmen leave the area. Maria goes up to Regigigas and apologized it for awakening it and asks it to help them. It agrees, and used Hidden Power to remove their petrification. After being thanked by Brandon, it turns back into an orb.
J is watching, smiling darkly, happy that they are weakening Regigigas for her. When Regigigas defrosts, Regice uses Zap Cannon, paralyzing it. Registeel uses Iron Head, knocking Regigigas to the ground. Regirock uses Stone Edge, weakening Regigigas even further.  Brandon prepares to capture Regigigas with a Poké Ball, but just before he throws it, J's Ariados uses its String Shot to tie him up, along with the entire gang. J returns Ariados to its Poké Ball, while Regigigas’ eyes begin glowing, followed by the eyes of the golems.  Confuse Ray takes effect and, as in the legend, the golems become Regigigas’ guardians, attacking J (Regirock and Regice with Zap Cannon, Registeel with Flash Cannon). The four legendary Pokémon then begin to leave the temple together, and J follows.

Just as the sun was about to set, the group returns to Snowpoint Temple. Brandon says that, to prevent Regigigas from awakening again, he will rebuild the temple and let Regice, Registeel and Regirock protect it, just like the legend. Brandon told Maria that they will work together to protect the sleeping Regigigas.
All four start to attack the mountains with Hyper Beam.  Brandon tries to stop them, failing.  He then tries to return his golems to their Poké Balls, but they are not responding to him at all.  Regice then turns on Brandon, using Zap Cannon, but Brandon is able to dodge it.  Dawn notes that the four Regis seem to be heading for the city… it could become a catastrophe if they reach it.

The Regis continue using Hyper Beam once in the forest. Team Rocket still has a plan to capture Regigigas, but Registeel blasts them off using Flash Cannon. Back by the temple, Piplup tries to chew through the web binding Dawn while Brandon, Ash and Pikachu struggle to break free of their ties. Brock, stricken with love for Maria, tells her that he is happy to be with her and he would never let go of the web that tied them together. Brock comes out and uses Poison Jab on him; the attack breaks the web. Soon free, the gang is back in the mini-airship.  Brandon checks in with Samuel, who says he needs more time to finish repairing the Pyramid. Brandon tells him to tell Officer Jenny to be on the alert while he catches up to Regigigas.

Meanwhile, J has gotten ahead of the four legendaries with her airship, ready with her henchmen to catch Regigigas.  When the four Regis reach J, her airship shoots lasers at them, which the Regis counter with Hyper Beam.  Afterwards, the airship shoots a liquid adhesive, which bears a striking resemblance to bubble gum, at Regigigas, to trap it.  Regigigas is not completely immobilized by the gum, however, and uses Hyper Beam to destroy one of the airship’s engines.  While dodging Hyper Beams fired by the three golems, J orders her henchmen to get the airship out of Regigigas’ firing range. J fires her bracelet at Regigigas to turn it to stone, but Regirock jumps in front of the blast to protect it and is turned to stone instead.  J, frustrated, tries again, and again; the blasts are taken by Registeel and Regice instead.  J fires the bracelet again now that there is nothing between her and Regigigas, but Brandon, telling Brock to take control of the airship, jumps out and in front of the beam and is petrified instead.  Regigigas catches him before he can hit the ground.  Before J can fire again, Pikachu and Piplup use Thunderbolt and BubbleBeam respectively.  Salamence unleashes Dragon Pulse at the airship, but Regigigas, breaking free of the gum, deflects the attack back at Salamence, breaking J’s bracelet.  J prepares to attack Dragon Pulse, but is interrupted by her henchmen who say that her client canceled the deal.  She and her henchmen leave the area immediately.  Maria apologizes to Regigigas for letting them awaken it, and asks it to save Brandon and the golems.  It agrees, using Hidden Power to unfreeze them before returning to the form of an orb.

The gang returns to the ruined Snowpoint Temple as the sun is setting.  Brandon promises to rebuild the temple and have Regirock, Regice, and Registeel protect Regigigas so it will never be awakened again, and Maria agrees to help him.
