Misty asks if they want to trade Psyduck but they refuse. {{ashfr|The trio}} come across a {{p|Venonat}} watching them from the trees. They follow the Venonat to an old house where it disappears into the corridor. Misty leans against a wall and falls through it. The others search the wall and eventually open it up to find her. Ash then falls out of the side of the house and is hanging on. The others manage to pull him up when Ash is stuck to a wall with throwing stars. Then [[Aya]] falls down onto them. She and Ash begin a {{pkmn|battle}} and she sends out Venonat. Ash chooses {{AP|Bulbasaur}}. Bulbasaur uses {{m|Tackle}} but Venonat jumps out of the way. Then Bulbasaur uses {{m|Leech Seed}} and Venonat is defeated. Aya returns Venonat and a Voltorb selfdestructs. [[Koga]] appears, and explains that they are at the [[Fuchsia Gym]], and that he is the [[Gym Leader]]. He says Aya is his sister and that he will battle Ash.

Brock mentions how wonderful Vulpix's hair is thanks to [[Suzy]], causing Misty to get annoyed and ask if Brock wants to trade Vulpix for Psyduck. However, he refuses. As they head off for the gym, a {{p|Venonat}} watches them from the trees. As {{ashfr|The trio}} continue walking, they end up at an odd-looking mansion where they stop to ask directions. They end up at an old house and open the door to find an empty corridor. Misty leans against a wall and falls through it. The others search the wall and eventually open it up to find her. There, they see the same {{p|Venonat}} that was spying on them before. It hops away, so they decide to follow it. It runs around a corner, and when they run after it, ash hits his face on an invisble wall. They turn around to leave, only to hit another wall.  Koga and Ash send out their [[Pokémon]], {{AP|Pidgeotto}} and Venonat. They start the battle and Venonat [[Evolution|evolves]] into {{p|Venomoth}}. Pidgeotto is defeated so Ash sends out {{AP|Charmander}}. But [[Team Rocket]] arrives and send out {{TP|Jessie|Arbok}} and {{TP|James|Weezing}}. Psyduck uses his {{m|Psychic|psychic attacks}} and blasts Arbok and Weezing away. Koga and Aya both offer to trade for Psyduck but Misty says "I wouldn't trade Psyduck for the world." Ash and Koga continue their battle outside. Ash chooses Charmander and Koga chooses {{p|Golbat}}. Charmander defeats Golbat, and Koga gives Ash a {{Badge|Soul|Soul Badge}}, and the trio go on their way.
