Satchel

If you were looking for the character of the day, see Satchel (EP262).

The satchel (Japanese: ポーチ pouch) is a bag that holds items, storing them for later use. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it replaces the Bag from previous games, but can only store a finite quantity of items. Excess items can be placed in the item storage, which has enough space for all items but is only accessible from certain areas.

The satchel menu can be accessed by pressing up on the D-Pad, the top directional button. The player's party can also be viewed from the satchel menu.

Mechanics

Pockets

The satchel is divided into two pockets, Everyday Items and Key Items. The Everyday Items pocket includes most essential items in the game, such as Potions and Poké Balls, while the Key Items pocket, as suggested by its name, stores Key Items.

The Key Items pocket has an unlimited number of slots while the Everyday Items pocket has a limited number of slots.

Slots

Similar to the Bag in Generation I games, the satchel consists of "slots" for different items. Slots and item storage can automatically be organized with the minus (-) button.

Additionally, similar to the Bag prior to Generation IV, there is a limit to the number of distinct items the player can hold in the Everyday Items pocket, up to 999 of each kind of item. If the player would obtain items that would cause them to exceed the space limit of their satchel, or have more than 999 of one kind, then they cannot obtain those items. If the player needs additional space to store items, they can move items into and out of their item storage, which can be accessed from Jubilife Village or at base camps.

Upgrades

Initially, the player's satchel can hold at most 20 distinct items. The number of slots can be increased by paying Bagin, a member of the Security Corps found inside the Galaxy Hall by the front entrance, who can expand the player's item capacity by one in exchange for money. The fee Bagin charges increases each time, starting from $100 for the first upgrade, up to $1,000,000 for the 39th and final upgrade.

Losing items

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the player may take damage in the overworld from attacks by wild Pokémon or by falling from large heights. This damage will gradually heal over time unless the player is being targeted by a wild Pokémon. Taking too much damage will cause the player to be rescued, upon which the player will lose several of the items in their satchel (but none of their money) and return to the last visited base camp.

Lost & Found

Lost & Found is a game mechanic that becomes available if the player has achieved their First Star in the Galaxy Team.

When connected to the internet, items that the player drops upon being rescued may appear in other players' games as Lost Satchels. If a player collects a Lost Satchel, the items will be returned to their owner's item storage, and the player who collected the satchel will be rewarded with Merit Points that can then be used to purchase items at the trading post in Jubilife Village.

When playing offline, some Lost Satchels with a pool of pre-determined names (Maven, Ava, Prosperity, Annie, Richie, Max) may still appear.
