Route (GO)

Routes are a feature in Pokémon GO, introduced on July 20, 2023. They are pre-defined paths between two PokéStops that players can travel on. These paths may be made by Niantic, official partners, or players that are level 37 or above.

Mechanics

While walking on a Route, players may discover Pokémon and receive special bonuses while following the Route, and completing Routes will grant the player rewards. Completing a Route will earn the player the badge associated with that Route, featuring a custom photo from the start or end point. A green light may appear near the endpoint of a Route. Tapping this light will add 1-2 Zygarde Cells to the player's Zygarde Cube.

Once a day, Mateo will appear at the endpoint. Tapping on Mateo will initiate a Gift Exchange, where players can select a Gift and Postcard from a nearby PokéStop or Gym to exchange with Mateo. Mateo will give the player a choice of Gifts from nearby. Upon sending the Gift, the player will receive a random Gift and Postcard from another player from somewhere else around the world. If the player has space in their regular Egg inventory, Mateo's Gift may include a 7 km Egg that uses a different Egg pool from standard 7 km Eggs.

Completing a Route while a Buddy Pokémon is on the overworld map will earn it an Affection heart—two hearts if its in an Excited Mood.

Players will also earn an XP bonus for the first Route completed each day. After completing Routes for seven days in a row, the player will receive an increased XP bonus.
