The Rebel Clash Build & Battle Box was a special product made to cater for Prerelease Tournaments for the Rebel Clash expansion. These tournaments were set to be held on the two weekends prior to the release of the expansion: April 18-19 and 25-26, 2020; however, all official Play! Pokémon events were canceled from March 17, 2020 due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.[1] Retailers in the Prerelease Program still received the boxes and were allowed to begin selling them from April 18, with a wider retail release on May 1, 2020.
Included in each Build & Battle Box was a 23-card Evolution pack that contained one of four specially stamped Prerelease cards, as well as four Rebel Clash booster packs. The Prerelease cards for the Rebel Clash expansion were Flapple, Luxray, Coalossal, and Garbodor; each card accompanied a group of Pokémon cards that focused on the following types respectively: Grass-type, Lightning-type, Fighting-type, and Darkness-type.
Build & Battle Boxes could include exclusive Non Holofoil versions of Holofoil cards from the Rebel Clash expansion: Luxray and Grimmsnarl. They could also provide a re-release of Non Holofoil Sword & Shield Professor's Research originally from the Sword & Shield Build & Battle Box.
