Rayquaza (Japanese: レックウザ Rayquaza) is a major character who appeared in Destiny Deoxys.

In the movies

When a meteorite that contained Deoxys entered the earth's atmosphere, Rayquaza sensed its presence and narrowly avoided the falling rock, angrily roaring at it. Deoxys emerged from the meteorite when it crash-landed, but was suddenly attacked by Rayquaza, who believed that Deoxys was invading its territory. A destructive battle ensued over a glacier, and it was witnessed by Professor Lund, Yuko, and Lund's son Tory. Although it took a few Psycho Boosts and fell into the freezing ocean, Rayquaza emerged from the sea and destroyed Deoxys with a Hyper Beam attack at close range. Satisfied with its victory, the Legendary Pokémon returned to the ozone layer.

Four years later, Deoxys managed to regenerate, and it went to search for its friend, a fellow Deoxys. Rayquaza sensed Deoxys's presence and traveled to LaRousse City to battle it again. After LaRousse City was evacuated because of the arrival of the Sky High Pokémon, Rayquaza managed to break through Deoxys's city-wide barrier after many failed attempts, and soon, it and Deoxys had a second spectacular battle that destroyed some of the city. This time, Deoxys gained the upper hand in the fight and was about to deliver the final blow upon Rayquaza, but was stopped by the arrival of its revived friend. As the two Deoxys reunited, Rayquaza recovered and attacked the two DNA Pokémon, triggering another fight. When Rayquaza blindly fired a Hyper Beam attack within the main power station, the Block Bots malfunctioned and flooded the streets.

During the battle, Rayquaza was engulfed in the sea of malfunctioning Block Bots, and the two Deoxys came to protect it by trying to block the incoming onslaught. At that moment, Rayquaza realized that the Deoxys weren't enemies and stopped attacking, but the three were soon overwhelmed by the flood of Block Bots. When the Block Bots were shut down to prevent further destruction, Rayquaza emerged from the sea of bots and briefly flew with the two Deoxys, Ash, Tory, Pikachu, and a Plusle and Minun before returning to the ozone layer on peaceful terms.

Rayquaza had a cameo in the opening of Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea, where it was captured by Team Rocket, and its current status is unknown. It also briefly reappeared in a montage in The Rise of Darkrai, which chronicled the preceding nine movies.

Personality and characteristics

Rayquaza is highly territorial and will relentlessly pursue those it feels has violated its space. However, when it was saved by the two Deoxys, it let go of its grudge against them and left them in peace.
