In the games
Professor Quentin Werty, along with Paige Down, teach the player to use Typing Balls to catch Pokémon. His dream is to study all rare Pokémon in the world, but he is not a strong enough typist to do it alone. When he hears of a rare Pokémon in the E Tall Forest, he runs off to investigate, leading Paige and the player to chase after him for his safety. After the two catch up to him, they find Werty outside the forest. He admits to leaving due to his own lack of strength, and tasks the player to conduct the research in his stead.
After completing Semi-Colon Cavern, Paige notices that Werty has disappeared. Knowing he will push himself past his limits for his research, Paige encourages the player to chase after him with her.
At Sunset Forward Slash Way, Paige and the player find Werty injured and barely able to stand. He implores the player to investigate the area despite this. After the player researches Cobalion, Werty tries to go with the player to find Zekrom and Reshiram. Paige pushes back at this, noting he has neglected both sleep and his own safety. When he refuses to hear it, she snaps at him and nearly breaks into tears. Realizing Paige is concerned for him, Werty apologizes and admits he needs to "act his age." He agrees to take a break.
After the player researches Zekrom and Reshiram, Werty thanks the player for their help.
