Pokémon Kit Models

The 012 Magikarp Kit Model set including pieces in box and instructions.

The Pokémon kit model sets were released in 1998, by Tomy in partnership with Chinese toy producer Auldey, for the Japanese market. The first release were wind-up toy figures to give the impression of movement, namely walking. Whereas the second release series, also released in 1998, used the model's head or tail to trigger a point of movement.

All kits are made from plastic. The models are packaged as pieces which require assembly, though included instructions help to make this process easier.

Second Release

Beginning with the second release, the model kits were branded as "Plamon" (プラモン), a portmanteau of "plastic" and "monster".
