Reason: Explain the search/filters with details

The Pokédex main page includes a list of all Pokémon in the National Pokédex with the options to search with additional filters applied. It also includes the total number of registered species. In the Nintendo Switch version, the current time is displayed at the top-right corner.

Regional Pokédexes

Starting in the v2.0.0 update, the mobile version of Pokémon HOME also keeps track of the regional Pokédex for Pokémon originating from the following games, along with the number of species required to complete each Pokédex. The player can receive rewards upon registering all Pokémon in a given regional Pokédex.

Game Pokédex Species Origin mark Wallpaper reward Pokémon reward
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Paldea Pokédex 400
Kitakami Pokédex 200
Blueberry Pokédex 240
Pokémon Legends: Arceus Hisui Pokédex 242
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Sinnoh Pokédex 150
Pokémon Sword and Shield Galar Pokédex 400
Isle of Armor Pokédex 210
Crown Tundra Pokédex 210
Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! Kanto Pokédex 150
Pokémon GO Pokédex N/A N/A

Mythical Pokémon are included in the Hisui Pokédex, but excluded from the other Pokédexes. Walking Wake and Iron Leaves are also excluded from the Blueberry Pokédex, but are included in the Pokémon GO Pokédex. Completing an entry in one of these Pokédexes requires transferring into HOME a Pokémon that originates from that specific game. Each Pokédex (except the Pokémon GO Pokédex) features a progress bar of the player's completion and adds a crown icon next to the number of entries after total completion is achieved.

The images used in the Kanto, Galar, Isle of Armor, Crown Tundra, Sinnoh, and Hisui Pokédexes show the models of each Pokémon as they appear in the corresponding game. Selecting a Pokémon displays its model and number in the Pokédex; in the Hisui Pokédex, the model is shown on a gray background like in the in-game Pokédex in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. If the Pokémon is not registered, its model will be shown as a silhouette. Some Pokémon display multiple models when selected to show their different forms that appear in that game; this includes all Pokémon with regional forms, as well as Burmy, Wormadam, Rotom, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Shaymin, Unfezant, Basculin, Frillish, Jellicent, Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorus, Meowstic, Lycanroc, Toxtricity, Indeedee, Urshifu, Basculegion, and Enamorus. Shellos and Gastrodon have their forms shown in the Sinnoh and Hisui Pokédexes but not the Galar Pokédex, which only displays their East Sea forms. Unlike in the in-game Pokédexes, Pokémon with regional forms have the form corresponding to that region shown as the primary form (for example, the Galar Pokédex shows Galarian Meowth as Meowth's primary form). Burmy and Wormadam also have the order of their forms changed in the Hisui Pokédex (Plant Cloak, Trash Cloak, Sandy Cloak), though the Sinnoh Pokédex displays them in their in-game order (Plant Cloak, Sandy Cloak, Trash Cloak). Unown has only its A form shown in the Sinnoh Pokédex, while only its F form is shown in the Hisui Pokédex.

The Paldea, Kitakami, and Blueberry Pokédexes do not use the Pokémon's models; instead, the Pokémon are represented with their menu sprites from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and selecting a Pokémon displays its Pokédex image from these games (albeit with the borders removed) with its number in the Pokédex. The menu sprites used show the primary form for most Pokémon; however, Vivillon uses its Fancy Pattern sprite, while Maushold uses its Family of Four sprite in the Paldea Pokédex and its Family of Three sprite in the Kitakami Pokédex. The Pokémon GO Pokédex uses each Pokémon's render from Pokémon HOME, with the National Pokédex numbers of each Pokémon being shown when they are selected. It does not display any alternate forms, with only the primary form of each Pokémon being shown (Unown uses its F form, Vivillon uses the Meadow Pattern, and Maushold uses its Family of Three form).

Pokédex entries

Pokémon HOME includes Pokédex entries of all Pokémon as seen in the National Pokédex.

It records information on Pokémon that have been deposited in the Boxes in Pokémon HOME. Users can view basic information and Pokédex entries from the Generation VI, VII, VIII, and IX core series games of Pokémon they have registered. Entries from Legends: Arceus can only be viewed when HOME is connected to a Legends: Arceus save file that has the entry for that Pokémon completed to research level 10, if that Pokémon has been registered in HOME's Pokédex. However, the HOME Pokédex will register a Pokémon deposited from Legends: Arceus as caught and unlock any other game's Pokédex entries, if any, even if the research level in Legends: Arceus is not at level 10. Pokédex entries from other languages and alternate forms of Pokémon can also be registered.

Completing the National Pokédex up to Eternatus (including Mythical Pokémon) makes the player eligible to receive an Original Color Magearna, made available for the first time in this alternate form. There were inconsistent problems with receiving this for the first month of availability, with some users not receiving a gift and others getting glitched versions, even upon completing a living Pokédex. These were later fixed.

When the player makes a transfer from Pokémon Bank, their National Pokédex on HOME will update and sync to include the entries on their National Pokédex from Bank.

Pokédex entries from Pokémon Legends: Arceus, like in the game itself, only appear when the player reaches research level 10 for that Pokémon by completing enough research tasks in the game. When Pokémon HOME is connected to a Legends: Arceus save file, all of that save file's complete Pokédex entries are added to HOME. When viewing an incomplete Legends: Arceus entry in HOME, it uses the following placeholder text: "This Pokémon is being investigated in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Complete research tasks to fill in this Pokémon's entry!"

Pokémon HOME also includes several Pokédex entries for Pokémon Sword and Shield that cannot be seen in the games. This includes all Pokémon that were present in the 1.0 versions of the games, but did not actually appear in the game's Pokédex.

Battle Bond Greninja and Ash-Greninja are the only Pokémon to have no displayed Pokédex entries in Pokémon HOME's Pokédex.

The entries for a few Pokémon have a unique feature where the player can "rotate" the Pokémon by pressing the right stick (in the Nintendo Switch version) or tapping a rotation icon (in the mobile version), which replaces the Pokémon's render with one viewed from a different angle in order to make a form difference or gender difference easier or possible to see. The Pokémon with this feature are Quagsire, Torchic, Bidoof, Buizel, and Floatzel in both versions (where they can be viewed from behind to highlight a gender difference), as well as Sinistea, Polteageist, Poltchageist, and Sinistcha in only the mobile version (where they can be viewed from below to highlight a form difference). Bidoof is the only one of these Pokémon where the gender difference in question can be seen on the default render without needing to rotate.

Registering Pokémon and alternate forms

The Pokédex registers data for any Pokémon that is deposited into HOME, including most alternate forms recognized by the Pokédex in the core series, and in the mobile version only, visually identical forms with unique Abilities. Additionally, when any Pokémon are transferred from Bank to HOME, all Pokédex data in Bank is added to the Pokédex in HOME.

If the Pokémon has a Mega Evolution, another form that can only be used in battle (e.g. Cherrim's Sunshine Form), or a form that requires a held item (e.g. Silvally's alternate forms), the data for these forms is registered when any form of the Pokémon is deposited (this also applies to Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, and Arceus, despite these Pokémon not requiring a held item or battle to change forms in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, as they revert to their standard forms upon being deposited into HOME). In order to register the entry for Mega Rayquaza, a Rayquaza must be deposited knowing the move Dragon Ascent. Registering a Pokémon's Gigantamax form requires depositing the Pokémon with the Gigantamax Factor.

If a Pokémon has a form that requires combining two Pokémon (i.e. Kyurem, Necrozma, or Calyrex), the entry for that form is registered when both Pokémon that make up that form are registered. Registering Dusk Mane or Dawn Wings Necrozma will also register Ultra Necrozma.

Alcremie's forms uniquely do not all need to be registered individually; instead, depositing an Alcremie registers all the forms with the cream type that was deposited, regardless of its Sweet type.

If a Pokémon with a gender difference is deposited, both genders are registered, except in the case of Shiny Pokémon. Depositing a Shiny Pokémon will register both the Shiny and regular entries for that species and form, and unlike non-Shiny Pokémon in the mobile version, depositing a Shiny Pokémon with a gender difference will register the Shiny entry only for that gender.

Depositing a Pokémon with a foreign language of origin unlocks that language's Pokédex entry for all forms of that species that have been registered.

HOME doesn't recognize alternate forms that don't appear in the Pokédex in the core series (except those with unique Abilities), including partner Pikachu and Eevee, all Cosplay Pikachu forms (including the non-costumed form which appears in the Pokédex in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire), all Totem-like Pokémon, all frenzied Noble Pokémon, Spiky-eared Pichu, the unused ???-type Arceus, Revavroom's Starmobile forms, Koraidon and Miraidon's non-battle forms, and Ogerpon's Terastallized forms, as well as the visually identical technical forms of Mothim, Arceus, Scatterbug, Spewpa, and Minior.

Unlike other forms with unique Abilities, Zygarde's 10% and 50% Formes with Power Construct are not recognized as separate forms in the mobile version, with Aura Break listed as their only Ability even if opening their Pokédex entry from the summary of a Zygarde with Power Construct.

Moves and Abilities

The mobile version of Pokémon HOME has a section of the Pokédex where moves and Abilities are listed and can be registered. Prior to v2.0.0, moves and Abilities each occupied separate sections of the Pokédex; starting in v2.0.0, to make space for the regional Pokédex section, the move and Ability sections are merged into a single section titled "Others", where the move and Ability lists can be toggled between. The lists are arranged alphabetically. Registering a move or Ability adds a Poké Ball icon next to it.

The list of moves displays the type and category of each move. Tapping a move or Ability in the list allows its description to be seen, taken from the most recent core series game in which it has a description (other than the generic one for unusable moves). It is also possible to search for Pokémon in the player's storage that know the selected move or have the selected Ability, or search for Pokémon in the Pokédex that can have the selected Ability. In v3.0.0, filters were added for each of the Nintendo Switch core series games; selecting any of these filters removes all moves or Abilities that are unusable or not present in that game and changes the descriptions to the ones from that game (though the move category is not changed, leading to the oddity of Double Hit being displayed as a physical move in the list for Pokémon Legends: Arceus), as well as removing the registered icons.

Moves can be registered if a Pokémon that knows the move (in any of its game-specific movesets) is deposited into HOME. The following moves are absent from the list due to the impossibility of registering them legitimately:

Abilities can be registered if a Pokémon that has the Ability (in any of its game-specific sets of data) is deposited into HOME. However, they can also be registered by depositing a Pokémon into HOME that would be able to gain the Ability via a form change. For example, depositing a Gengar registers both Cursed Body and Shadow Tag, the former being its own Ability and the latter being attainable via Mega Evolution. This only applies if the alternate form has also been registered in the Pokédex (for example, Neuroforce can only be registered if a Necrozma is deposited and either Solgaleo or Lunala has been registered, since this is required in order to register Ultra Necrozma). Embody Aspect is the only Ability that is absent from the list, as it is acquired only through the Terastal phenomenon, with the unique Terastallized states of Ogerpon that have it not being considered separate forms in HOME.
