Main article: Spiky-eared Pichu

In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, if the player interacts with the Ilex Forest shrine while walking with the Pikachu-colored Pichu or any of its Evolutions (a fateful encounter Shiny Pichu, Pikachu or Raichu), the Spiky-eared Pichu will appear and join the player's party. This is a female Pichu with three spikes at the tip of her left ear. According to Professor Elm, Spiky-eared Pichu has traveled through time with Celebi. This Pichu cannot evolve, or be traded or transferred outside of its original game.

The Spiky-eared Pichu also appeared in Arceus and the Jewel of Life and its manga adaptation, the Japanese ending theme Get Fired Up, Spiky-eared Pichu!, the Pikachu shorts Pikachu's Big Sparking Search, Meloetta's Moonlight Serenade, the HeartGold & SoulSilver arc of the Pokémon Adventures manga, in Pokémon Battrio, and as an alternate costume of Pichu in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

In several animated shorts, the Pokémon: Yeah! I Got Pokémon! manga, and the TCG, Pichu Big has a tuft of hair. He is the older of the Pichu brothers. He lacks this hair tuft in the Pokémon Pocket Monsters manga.

In Pokémon Adventures, Pibu is a Pichu with a tuft of hair. It belongs to Gold.
