In the core series games

Generation IX

A total of four Paldean forms were introduced in Generation IX.

Unlike previous games, the player can breed Pokémon anywhere in picnics and is not limited to specific areas of the region. Should the player have The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, they are able to obtain the regular non-Paldean forms of Paldean Pokémon by breeding the Paldean forms without an Everstone outside of Paldea. In addition to this, Johtonian Wooper is available in the wild in Kitakami and Kantonian Tauros is available in the wild in the Terarium.

In addition, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet introduced the ecologically similar Pokémon lines: the Wiglett, Toedscool, and Poltchageist lines, whose designs heavily resemble the Diglett, Tentacool, and Sinistea lines, respectively. Despite their similar appearances, these Pokémon are not regional forms, as their Pokédex entries confirm them to be separate species. Their resemblance to pre-existing Pokémon may be inspired by the real-world phenomenon of convergent evolution.

Generation IX also introduced the Paradox Pokémon, which are also considered to be separate species of Pokémon despite resembling existing species, though they are theorized to be related to those species in some way.

In the spin-off games

    • Paldean Wooper is the only Paldean form to be revealed prior to the release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
    • Clodsire is the only regional form exclusive evolution to be introduced in Generation IX.
  • Fewer Paldean forms are introduced in a region than any other regional form, with a total of 4.
