Megumi Nakajima

Megumi Nakajima (Japanese: 中島愛 Nakajima Megumi) is a Filipino-Japanese voice actress for the Pokémon anime.

Biography

Nakajima was born on June 5, 1989, in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. Her mother was Filipino, her father Japanese, and her family had an affinity for music, which led to her developing an interest in pursuing a career as a singer. In 2003, Nakajima participated in and passed a musical audition held by Stardust Promotion, signing with the talent agency afterwards. However, she wasn't given anything to work on despite her training while waiting for an opportunity, and she briefly considered quitting. During her senior year of high school, Nakajima learned of another musical audition held by Victor Entertainment, the winner of which would be cast in the anime series Macross Frontier. She decided to participate, won, and was cast as Ranka Lee.

Following her portrayal of Ranka Lee in Macross Frontier, Nakajima found mainstream success as a singer and voice actress, making her musical debut on April 18, 2007, and releasing singles ever since. She was also cast in numerous other roles in anime series and films. On December 2, 2013, Nakajima's musical career underwent a hiatus; in 2019, she explained it was because she felt restrained by her role as Ranka Lee in the Macross Frontier franchise, which subsequently left her with low self-esteem. However, she continued voicing characters during this time, and she eventually returned to singing on December 1, 2016.

Nakajima joined the Pokémon anime during Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl, voicing recurring character Lyra, a Pokémon Trainer from the Johto region. She then voiced another recurring character in the following Pokémon the Series: Black & White, this time the Mythical Pokémon Meloetta.
